Ye Chang, or notoriously known in the World of Magic as Red Cardinal Salan of the Black Vatican, is the stepmother of the main protagonist Mo Fan and the biological mother of Ye Xin Xia. She privately married Mo Jia Xing under her true name when Mo Fan was young and immediately left her alone with her new family a few months later.
During the Ancient City Xi'an Undead Catastrophe, her body double appeared under her long established pseudonym Hunter Union Elder Ling Xi.

Ye Chang was originally a top and strong female Hunter mage of the Parthenon at Wentai's side. After knowing various dark truths about her "saint" husband and the "pure" Parthenon, Ye Chang fell into despair and began to hate the World, wanting its humans to despair as she did for following society's veil of lies and later she wants to destroy the Black Vatican in the end.
She is thorough and devoted to her promises, proof is how despite her readiness to Kill Ye Xin Xia to spite and torture Wentai she does not harm her as she made a promise to him to safeguard her until she turns 20. She also likes to wear high-heels.
In her heart, all she wanted was to live a peaceful, happy life, but upon learning some despairing dark truths, Ye Chang hated and wanted to end the Society of the World that wronged her and her happiness. She also wanted to save humans by being Evil to give them despair and the true reality of their Society, in order to make them realize the future dangers they will face.
Compared to how much she loves her ambitious and righteous scheming first husband, she never loved or had any type of feelings for her second husband.
She had stated to the Saint Wentai that she is a very bad woman and he is the only one keeping her from falling over the edge. She was hinted to resent Wentai greatly for leaving her behind and sacrificed himself to save the world. She wanted to corrupt their 'Little Angel' Ye Xinxia just to get back at her Husband retorting that it pleases her to know that 'he' will be rolling in the Dark Plane implying that she knows that Wentai has become the Dark King. However, she might not know the true reason for Wentai's sacrifice.
She is surprisingly apathetic, she has no qualms about who dies or doesn't die as long as someone dies, even its her own daughter and she has no issue sending aid to anyone if it serves her own purposes, even helping Mo fan. It was stated that not only did God give her a heart as evil as the devil’s, he also gave Salan an unmatched intellect, the true reason why the name Salan could make one shiver.

Objective[]
Unlike other Red Cardinals Salan's motivation is said to be the least fanatical, publicly stating her goal is to give humans despair to show them the reality of their society but mainly her aim is to hunt down all those who voted for the death of her husband Wentai. She however states that she blames Wentai more than anyone for him ignoring her warnings aout the conspiracy in the Parthenon.
Regardless she is however an extremist in her actions, not hesitating to wipe out entire cities if it means her target succumbs too.

At the end, Ye Chang and Yan Qiu and a FC Black Vatican scrub ran into Harold, a very powerful Mage who was Michael's former comrade and someone who is able to toy with regular Full Forbidden Curse Mage like they are three year old, with one of the 12 highest Blessings, the Parthenon Goddess can muster, (Each of the twelve blessings are synonymous with the 12 Olympian Gods) to "kill" Ye Chang completely.
However, Harold choose to spare Ye Chang, instead erasing her memories and cultivation and then leave her in a hospital where she eventually wanders to Mo Jiaxing's tea garden cafe where she got a chance to start anew in a blank slate thus fulfilling Ye Xinxia (and her father Wentai)'s wish for peace in the family.

She also possesses 9th boundary level spiritual attainment. She was also able to escape from Half Demonized Mo Fan who was comparable to False Emperor while carrying an almost dead Wu Ku.

Blue Bat mentioned that Salan currently has three reliable right hands serving under her: the Chief Extraditor, the Head Priest, and the Evil Herbalist.
- Extradition First: She is the Chief Extraditor and is regarded as Salan's most important Disciple and is salan's trump card against Izisha. She was additionally responsible for the capture of Shura, for the jail break of Cold Prince from the holy court.
- Black Pharmacist/ The Evil Herbalist: An important asset to Salan due to the Frenzy Liquid. A substance made from poppies that could be converted into rain and twist/control the nature of both demon beasts and people, Causing them to attack anything in sight.
- Wu Ku, The Head Priest: One of the right hands of Salan and the real mastermind behind the Bo City Tragedy.
- Great Deacon Hu Jin: He was in charge of all the blue deacons under Salan, he was the first right hand man to be revealed during the attack on the Ancient Capital. He was one of the chief plotters of the attack on Bo City and involved in the Ancient Capital conspiracy. He was later killed by Salan when it was revealed that he personally allowed Mo Fan to enroll to Magic high school thus birthing the natural enemy of the Black Vatican.
The three of them were invaluable to Salan's plans to cause calamities: The Evil Herbalist’s job was to produce the Frenzy Liquid. The Chief Extraditor was responsible for recruiting members and planting spies. When the Frenzy Poppies matured, the spies would be ready to carry out the plan. Wu Ku would then show up to call up a huge downpour. He would mix the Frenzy Liquid with it to bring destruction upon the place.
She also has 9 personal disciples who are learning her skills and also answer directly to Her. They must earn her approval with an impressive graduation project;
- The notable disciple is the Blue Bat. Blue Bat’s final assignment was to provoke the Hillmen to raze the Aorus Sacred Institute to the ground.
- Wolf Chief: A chief executioner who only took orders from the Chief Extraditor and Salan. He was responsible for executing the Cold Prince.
